Chandeliers are designed to float in a room, and add elegance and sophistication.  Too large and it will dominate the room.  Too small and it will look out of place and lost. 

To determine the correct size chandelier for your foyer just add the dimensions together.  For an example if your foyer is 14' by 16' add it together and your width should be 30".  Your chandelier does not have to be exactly 30" but around 30"-34" would be a proper size. 

Many make the mistake of downsizing and the fixture looks out of place.  It is always better to be too large than too small.

Also make sure the bottom of the chandelier should not hang more than 7' from the floor.  If there are windows, center the fixture on the windows.
